Bedfordshire Hospitals are committed to developing staff to support the work in current roles, future roles and also personal growth. 

If you have found a course that you would like to request funding for please, read through the  Funding Procedure located at the bottom of this paragraph to find out how to do so. 

A number of development areas have been highlighted across the organisation and the CPD Team have therefore procured a number of courses to help support your development. This page shows all the externally funded courses that we have available to staff. Some of the courses listed may be for specific staff groups only (this is due to funding regulations), this information will be stated. 

If you are interested in attending any courses the following steps must be followed:

  1. Your line manager must agree that this is an appropriate course for you and you have negotiated the time to attend. 

  2. All your statutory and mandatory training must be up to date.

  3. You must complete a funding request form to apply for course fees (this form must be submitted to the CPD team a minimum of 3 weeks before the course start date or application deadline.)

  4. If your funding request form is accepted you will then be required to sign a learning contract*

*Please note, you may be asked to apply for/ book your own course. You will be informed of this via email once funding has been arranged. All forms must be completed in full. Any incomplete forms will not be processed.

About NHS Elect

NHS Elect is a national member network organisation that has been providing NHS organisations with high-quality support and training since 2002.


Hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, they are part of the NHS and work regularly with NHS England and NHS Improvement, social care and local government, and other national bodies. This gives an in-depth understanding of emerging healthcare policy and best practice from across the UK, which they use to support work with their members.

Root Cause Analysis - M&K Update

Staff Group: Nurses, Midwives, AHPs, Nursing Associates

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a structured method used to analyse adverse events. It can be used for any event, drug errors, falls, incidents of pressure ulcers and it can be used to help deal with complaints. When incidents happen, it is important that lessons are learned to prevent the same incident occurring elsewhere. RCA investigation is a well recognised way of doing this.

We have virtual, all day, training sessions available specifically for Bedfordshire Hospital staff on the following dates:

Comprehensive Assessment of the Older Person - M&K Update

Staff Group: Nurses, Midwives, AHPs, Nursing Associates

Aimed at nurses and allied health professionals it will enable the attendee to understand, recognise and use appropriate assessments as part of a systematic approach to improve the quality of assessment and outcomes of care for older people in acute or intermediate care settings.

This is a 2 day virtual course, you must attend both days:

Understanding Blood Results- M&K Update

Staff Group: Nurses, Midwives, AHPs, Nursing Associates

Early recognition of abnormalities can avert potential life threatening or at least harmful situations.

This well established and respected two day course allows the candidate a chance to fully understand routine haematology and biochemistry results.

Attended by nurses and allied health professionals whose work involves blood investigation.

This is a 2 day virtual course, you must attend both days:

Emotional Resilience Training - Recognising and Responding To Compassion Fatigue

LIVE WEBINAR & OFF SITE FACE TO FACE OPTIONS – 6 Hours

 

This CPD accredited course endorsed by Skills for Care is delivered live by our experienced facilitators. It is very interactive, and the content and activities are tailored specifically to the needs of each organisation. All participants will be sent pre course information with full instructions on how to join the webinar. They also receive a handout which can be printed out or accessed and edited via an iPad or laptop.

Course Outline 

Part 1 - Recognising the emotional impact of working in a caring role.

The first part of the course explores the physical and emotional effects of the stress response, vicarious trauma and the impact of an empathetic connection. Then identifies the stages of Compassion Fatigue and looks at the risk factors. 

 

Part 2 - Responding for resilience 

Part two explores a variety of practical and sustainable self-care strategies, including how diet, exercise and sleep affect mental health and influence emotional resilience. We share tools and strategies that enable participants to make simple but effective and sustainable changes. 

 

Part 3 - Recovering through self-care and self-compassion. 

The third part concentrates on practical techniques that have been proven to enable relaxation including, breathing techniques and mindfulness. It also addresses the concept of self-compassion and includes ideas and strategies to prioritise self-care.

Resilience Power Skills - Koru International

Staff Group: Nurses, Midwives, AHPs, Nursing Associates

How you deal with high pressure and challenging situations will influence outcomes - including your health and wellbeing, relationships and overall performance. It is therefore critical to have the techniques and knowledge to be able to regulate your emotions, facilitate psychological and physiological wellness, and be equipped to take responsibility to support yourself and others.

Yet in stressful times these personal resources are often compromised.

 

Resilience Power Skills, (part of an international award-winning training programme), is broken down into three manageable and flexible sessions to take account of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

By using the latest science and research, the why, and showing the tools and techniques, the how, these three sessions will share the rationale and techniques to enable delegates to take action to be resilient to pressure and have the capability to perform.
